The purpose of this qualification is to provide managers with the means to cultivate the knowledge and skills that will enable them to address local and international organisational challenges, through an integrated business leadership approach. This approach focuses on the application of specialised knowledge, skills, and experience in the fields of management and leadership development, within a research-driven context.

The qualification develops the student’s capacity to; create strategies to address organisational challenges through the integrated application of theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge, systemic principles and advanced analytical and problem solving skills; develop targeted personal competence in the chosen research topic; incorporate in the research process appropriate research methodologies and academic writing techniques; critically reflect on research outcomes and results within an ethical framework; construct strategies that incorporate the principles of technology management, innovation management, people management, and systems management; develop innovative strategies to address socio-economic transformation challenges. The qualification further aims to recognise those who have the acquired competence in the field of research to serve in transformational management positions in organisations or self-owned businesses.

 

The key objective is the development of business leaders who will initiate socioeconomic change interventions and sustainable business development initiatives. The qualification aims to instil in students a thorough understanding of the application of the key elements of systems thinking, business development, technology management, and innovation, as well as people development, whilst focusing on sustainability and the increased local and international competitiveness.

Compulsory Modules

  • Managerial and Leadership Development: 2 credits

  • Managing Systems: 12 credits

  • Problem-Solving, Creative Thinking and Decision-Making: 8 credits

  • Self, Other and Social Contexts: 10 credits

  • Management of Innovation: 10 credits

  • Management of People: 8 credits

  • Management of Technology: 10 credits

  • Dissertation: 120 Credits

Elective Modules
Students are re
quired to select any five of the following elective modules to the value of 60 credits.

The Institute reserves the right not to offer a particular elective should
minimum registration numbers not be reached.

  • Relevant NQF Level 8 qualification

  • A research idea approved by the Research Office

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Alternative access routes should the candidate not meet the admission requirements:

When you exit the qualification you should be equipped to:

  • Conceptualise and integrate managerial leadership frameworks within a systems thinking context.

  • Integrate the knowledge and required behaviours to the effective management of technology, the management of innovation, and the management of people processes with transformation initiatives.

  • Differentiate and communicate ideas, principles, concepts and practical application of theories and frameworks.

  • Align and integrate technology, innovation, people, and systems thinking concepts to transform individuals, communities and/or organisations.
