The Higher Certificate in Management of Technology and Innovation is designed to enable members of an organisation, whose career paths may not necessarily have included gaining formal qualifications, to realise their true potential by developing them to better understand their role in an organisational environment and preparing them to be more effective within a contemporary organisational context. The qualification also equips students with personal development opportunities for them while they meet their job requirements, emphasising the integration of systems, technology, innovation, and people development concepts into each person's individual performance within an organisation. This qualification also serves as a foundational programme for those wanting to gain access into a Bachelor’s Degree.

The Qualification aims to produce life-long learners who are equipped to contribute towards the debate on socio-economic transformation and management development in South Africa, Continentally and Internationally. This purpose seeks to transform individuals, organisations, and the community at large, dealing with management development challenges, such as entrepreneurship, project management, the management of technology, the management of innovation, the management of people and the management of systems from a management development perspective.

Compulsory Modules (84 Credits):
All compulsory modules must be completed. 

  • Managerial and Leadership Development (20 credits)

  • Systems Theory and Problem Solving (20 credits)

  • Management Fundamentals: Technology, People, and Innovation Management (20 credits)

  • Project Management (12 Credits)

  • Business Management (12 Credits)

Elective Modules (36 Credits):
Students must select 3 elective modules from the groupings explained below.

Students should select one of the following elective combinations consisting of three elective modules at 12 credits each and totaling 36 credits towards the 120 credits of the programme.

Students can select either the electives associated with Systems and Technology (consisting of three elective modules at 12 credits each as listed below) OR the electives associated with Innovation and People (Students must select any three of the four modules at 12 credits each as listed below)

Systems and Technology Electives
 

  • Customer Centricity (12 credits)

  • Safety, Health, Environmental, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) Management (12 credits)

  • Supply Chain Management: Logistics and Transport (12 credits)

Innovation and People Electives

  • Business Improvement Specialist (12 credits)

  • Principles of Leadership (12 credits)

  • New Venture Creation (Entrepreneurship) (12 credits)

  • Sales Process and Management Environment (12 credits)

Minimum admission requirements

  • National Senior Certificate NSC/SC(a) – with a minimum of 30% in English or a minimum of 33.3% in English for the Senior Certificate (SC); OR

  • National Certificate (NC) (V) at Level 4 – with a minimum of 40% in English.

  • National Nated Certificate 4 (N4)

  • Apply technology, innovation, people, and systems thinking concepts to transform individuals, communities, and/or organisations.
