Our Faculty

The Da Vinci Faculty consists of qualified professionals who possess both industry experience as well as effective facilitation skills in order to promote critical thinking. As Subject Matter Experts (SME’s), they co-create new workplace realities as the student is encouraged to cultivate their inner-managerial leader through self-reflection, self-discovery and the exploration of new knowledge. 

 

 

Benjamin Anderson

Subject Matter Expert/Faculty: SOS, PCD & MLD

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Ben holds a Bachelors in Philosophy and Psychology, Honours in Psychology, Bachelor in Theology, National Diploma in Theology, Masters in Psychology, PhD (Psychology) and is a Registered Psychologist.                                                

Work Background

Ben has worked in various teaching and management positions at the University of the Free State between 1991 and 2000.  He joined FNB, where he was involved in staff development since 2001, and eventually served as the Chief Learning Officer of FNB from 2003 to 2005, when he became the first (and still current) Chief Executive Officer/Vice President of The Da Vinci Institute.

Ben teaches the following modules focused on leadership development: Self and other Social Contexts, Problem Solving and Decision Making, as well as Managerial Leadership Development.

 

 

John Arnesen

Faculty Head: Marketing

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

John holds a BCom degree from the Rhodes University and a BCom (Honours) degree from UNISA.  He has also completed a Management Development Programme at UNISA, a General Management Programme at Harvard Business School in the USA, and he is a certified Chartered Marketer (SA).

Work Background

John has worked in a range of marketing and managerial positions, including the position of CEO of the Financial Planning Institute, and the position of Director at the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), where he was responsible for branding and advocacy (marketing) of SAQA and the NQF brand. 

He currently consults on a range of topics including leadership, marketing and education (NQF) related matters.  He is also a board member at a number of companies.

John is the Faculty Head for Marketing at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

 

Soraya Barry

Faculty: Banking

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Suraya holds a Bachelors of Arts (Psychology and Sociology) as well as a Bachelors of Arts  (Honours) degree in Sociology from the UPE (now NMMU).

Work Background

Suraya worked in Retail Banking for 20 years and have experience in different structures and departments in branch banking.  Her last couple of years was in the Home loan division and this is where she became a Training Consultant. She was involved in various different structures and training in leadership, transformation & strategy, and mentoring & coaching.  She also served as head trainer for Projects at FNB Homeloans.

Adrienne Berkowitz

Faculty: SOS, PCD & MLD

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Adrienne attended the University of Witwatersrand where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a Post graduate Higher Education Diploma. She graduated top of her class when she attained her Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. She is currently studying towards a Master’s degree at the Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Adrienne held various posts in the Tourism Industry including managing travel agencies and running a specialised Group Tour Department She worked for Alitalia in the Sales Department and for Sun International as a coordinator for the Superstars who entertained at Sun City.

She worked in the Industrial Real Estate sector as an Industrial broker focussing on the letting and selling of Industrial buildings. She has run a training consultancy for the past 10 years which has facilitated many interventions predominantly in the then FET sector for the National Department of Education and various FET Colleges.

Vulumuzi Bhebhe

Faculty Head: Entrepreneurship

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Vulumuzi holds a Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) and an MBA from the Princeton University and a PhD from The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Vulumuzi works in the business consulting space, helping businesses improve their processes, rethink and/ or re-engineer their strategies and implement solutions for success.

Field of specialisation

Vulumuzi teaches Entrepreneurship at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Joshua Bhengu

Faculty: MSOS, MOP, HR Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Joshua holds an IPM Diploma, MBA from the International Management Centre (Buckingham) and a senior management programme (SMP) at IMD. He is a graduate of the Institute of People Management (IPM), holds an MBA from Buckingham and has completed a senior management programme (SMP) at IMD.

He is currently reading for his PhD in the Management of Technology and Innovation (MOTI) at The Da Vinci Institute

Work Background

Joshua is the former Regional HR Director: Africa and Middle East (Reckitt & Colman (now Reckitt Benckiser)) and was the General Manager for Cappa Sacks. He has taught business strategy at UNISA and is a past Chairman of Council of the Technikon North West.

Field of specialisation

He is an experienced mentor and coach for managers, a passionate action-learning practitioner and a skilled motivator of people.

 

Biddie Biddulph

Faculty: Management of Technology, Managing the Systems Way

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Biddie holds a B.Compt (Hons) from the University of Pretoria and an MBL degree from UNISA. He has successfully completed the PhD degree in the field of personal and professional leadership at the University of Johannesburg and should graduate during 2017.

Work Background

Biddie completed articles with the International Auditors, Coopers and Lybrand, and then joined Volkskas Bank as an internal auditor, where he qualified as an internal and computer auditor. Thereafter he spent 4 years with Volkskas in various top financial management positions. Since the formation of ABSA Bank, he was involved in the setup of the Financial Services Division of ABSA and with ABSA Insurance Brokers as General Manager for 10 years.  His experience includes the management of the Technology Department at ABSA Brokers, where he implemented a new strategic technology plan, managed the Y2K project of the company and established a ‘data exchange or switch’ for the financial service industry, amongst other achievements.

Biddie is a member of the faculty for two modules, namely Management of Technology and Managing the Systems Way.

 

 

Ronel Blom

Dean: Research and Design

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Ronel holds a Teaching Diploma from the Goudstad Teaching College, a BA Degree from UNISA, a Post-Grad Diploma in Higher Education from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, a M.Ed. degree (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria as well as a PhD from the University of Pretoria.

Ronel’s M.Ed. (2004),entitled The recognition of prior learning: In search of a valid and sustainable mechanism for South Africa, (supervised by Prof Sarah Howie) aimed to describe current international and national practices in the implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and to identify mechanisms that will ensure that RPL is a credible and valid process for the awarding of credits in terms of formal unit standards and qualifications registered on the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Her PhD (2006) entitled The ideal of an integrated national qualifications framework, (supervised by Prof Jonathan Jansen), dealt with the extent to which the South African education and training system reflects in principle, perception and practice, the ideal of an integrated framework.

Work Background

Ronel is an experienced researcher, policy developer, implementer and critic.  She has published extensively on education policy matters including the South African NQF.

Jan Bosman

Faculty: Managerial Leadership, Management of People

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Jan holds the degrees BA (Psychology), BA (Hons) (Psychology) and MA (Psychology) (Research) from the University of Stellenbosch, as well as a in MA Clinical Psychology from the University of PE and a PhD (Psychology) from the University of the Free State.

Work Background

Jan has experience in working with the South African Medical Services and practising as a clinical psychologist, specialising in Trauma, Addiction Disorders.

He also has extensive experience in the field of management and leadership development, emotional intelligence and stress management.

Esmé Brits

Faculty: Banking 

 

 

 

 

 Qualifications / Academic Background

Esme holds a Higher Teaching Diploma at the Bloemfontein Teaching College (4 years) as well as BCom with specialisation in Human Resource Management from UNISA.  She also completed a National Certificate: Occupational Directed Education, Training and Development Practice at the  Chartall Business College (BANKSETA Bursary).

Work Background

Esmé worked as a teacher before joining the banking industry, where she worked for around 13 years (both Saambou Bank and African Bank).

She was a learning practitioner in the banking industry and has experience in banking processes, systems, legislation, change management and strategies to name just a few.

Esmé is a registered assessor and moderator (BANKSETA). She is passionate about facilitating as she has a passion for people and keeps learning from every individual in class. Through facilitation, she has an opportunity to build positively into people’s lives.

 

 

Ben Burger

Faculty: Risk Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Ben holds a National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (TUT), a National Higher Diploma in Total Quality Management (TUT) as well as an MSc (MOTI) (Da Vinci).

He is a certified DGQ/EOQ Quality Manager & Quality Professional, Certified ISO 31000 Risk Management Professional and ISO 31000 Certified Trainer as well as a Certified ISO 31000 Risk Manager and ISO 31000 Certified Trainer.

Work Background

Ben’s experience includes 22 years (and 100+ projects) of delivering and/or project–managing consulting services (i.e., enterprise level system modelling and business process architecture development, business process mapping and requirements integration) to government agencies and the private sector.

Completed projects span a wide range of organisations in the services, construction, mining, petroleum, power generation/distribution, leisure and manufacturing industry sectors – ranging in size from SMMEs to multinational corporations.

Field of specialisation

Ben’s passion is to assist organisations in developing integrated management systems strategies, with a risk-based process approach and their own unique value chain as basis. He facilitates Risk Management at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

 

Johann Burden

Faculty: Project Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Johann’s qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Industrial Psychology from Potchefstroom University (now UNW), a PhD in Industrial Psychology from UJ, and an Advanced Executive Programme from UNISA.

Work Background

Johann’s experience includes a number of Human Resource positions, including senior positions at Allied Bank, United Bank and Nedcor.  He also worked in senior positions including Group Executive: Human Resources at Business Connexion.

Field of specialisation

Johann’s expertise includes organisational development services as well as project management.  He facilitates project management at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Daniel Chetty

Facilitator: Banking

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Daniel holds a BSc Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) form Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Work Background

Daniel is an expert in Chemical Engineering and Management Consulting. Daniel has 13 years of Senior Management experience in the Financial Services (Banking) Sector. He works in the Banking industry – primarily in Credit Risk Management in a senior management capacity.

Daniel also has Management Consulting and Engineering experience.

Graeme de Bruyn

Faculty: Business Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Graeme de Bruyn holds a B.Ed. Hons from the North-West University and completed a Master of Management from the Witwatersrand University.

Work Background

Graeme has worked in executive positions at the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, The Careways Group; FranklinCovey Southern Africa; Futures Group International and is Head of Faculty of Business Management at The Da Vinci Institute.

Field of specialisation

Graeme is experienced in facilitating workshops with large groups with representatives from different sectors, and developed/facilitated workshops on leading teams and managing organisational change, strategy execution, policy development, time management, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Managers™, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens™, The 6 Most Important Decisions You’ll Ever Make™, The Leader In Me™, personal resilience and team effectiveness.

As the Faculty Head: Business Management, he impacts the curriculum and facilitates Business Management to the BCom students of The Institute.

 

 

Renaldo de Jager

Faculty: Business Management  

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Renaldo holds an MBA from Regent Business School.

Work Background

Renaldo has acquired 16 years’ experience as an International Management Consultant. During this time, he successfully delivered projects in most industries in various countries.

Pieter Du Toit

Faculty: Aviation Management, Change Management

 

 

 

 Qualifications / Academic Background

Pieter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Post-graduate Masters in Business Leadership (MBL). He is currently studying for his PhD at The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Pieter held various posts in a number of organisations and industries that ranged from the Aviation Industry as an Air Traffic and Mission Controller, Mining Industry as Human Resources Manager at one of the five Divisions of Vaal Reefs Exploration and Mining Company and the Tourism Industry including owning and managing a travel agency.  Since 1997 he owns and runs VNI Consultants, a consultancy firm specialising in Organisational Development and Change Management.  Pieter is also the Lead Consultant of Status Aviation.

Pieter facilitates Change Management as well as Aviation Management at The Da Vinci Institute. 

 

Isaiah Engelbrecht

Faculty Head: Management of Innovation

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Isaiah has completed many courses over the years and also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA and is currently studying towards a PhD in innovation at The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Isaiah is an author, teacher, speaker, coach, entrepreneur and “craftsman” (business solutions creator).

Isaiah plays a leading role in the advancement of innovation in the country and is a founding thought leader and previous chairperson of the South African Innovation Network (SAINe-www.saine.co.za) 

He has gained experience across various industries and has implemented innovation management systems at diverse organisations.

Isaiah teaches the Management of Innovation at The Institute.

 

 

Jo Enslin

Faculty: Risk Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Jo holds a BA Honours degree in Geography (Potch, now NWU), a BA Honours in Sociology (Potch, now NWU), a University Education Diploma (Potch, now NWU), as well as a National Diploma in Occupationally Directed ETD Practices from The Institute for People Development.  He has also completed an Executive Development Programme at WITS.

Work Background

Jo started his career as a Geography teacher, whereafter he worked as a Human Resource Manager, including the management of training.  He then moved on to safety health and risk management, developing learning material and offering training in this field.

Juliette Fourie

Faculty: Sales, CRM and Key Account Management 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Juliette holds a BCom (Industrial Psychology) from the University of Stellenbosch and a BCom (Honours) (Industrial Psychology) from UNISA.  She also holds an MSc (MOTI) from The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Juliette’s career started in the Freight Forwarding industry but has always been focused on education and training.  She owns and manages a training company, Metrominds, which was one of the TT100 finalists in the past two years, and she received the prestigious national ‘Boss of the Year’ in 2014.

Juliette facilitates CRM, sales and key account management at The Institute.

 

 

Mark Fuller

Faculty: Work Based Challenge, Operational Management 

 

  

Qualifications / Academic Background

Mark has a Master’s degree in improving business processes using Lean thinking. He is also currently studying towards a PhD at The Da Vinci Institute

Work Background

Mark’s career history includes various senior management positions including CEO positions. He has also worked as a management consultant.  His experience includes the implementation and training of LEAN, WCMS, Change Management and Strategic Operational processes. He has also developed successful sales, marketing and CRM strategies for a number of large companies.

Field of specialisation

Mark teaches Work Based Challenge (research at undergraduate level) as well as Operational Management at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

 

Welmoed Geekie

Faculty: Project Management 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Welmoed holds an M.Sc. Project Management from the University of Pretoria as well as PRINCE2 certification.  She also holds a Certificate in Education, Training and Development from UJ and a B.Sc Dietetics from UP.

Work Background

Welmoed worked as a medical representative and later became the Training Manager for Adcock Ingram and Thebe Medicare, whereafter she specialised in training, firstly in the Pharmaceutical and Nutritional Training, and later in Project Management.  She also served as an adjudicator of the South African Project Management Excellence Awards 2012 as well as the 2016 adjudication panel and formed part of the team that developed the draft Supply Chain Management Curriculum for National Treasury (2013).

Schalk Gerber

Faculty: Business Ethics

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Schalk’s highest qualification is a Master’s degree in philosophy of religion amongst the two undergraduate and three postgraduate degrees. Other fields of study include psychology and theology. He has studied twice abroad, namely in Konstanz – Germany; and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Schalk plans to enrol for a PhD in 2017.

Work Background

The bulk of my Schalk’s experience includes teaching or work related to the higher education sector. He is currently focusing on furthering his academic career through presenting papers at local and international conferences, and publishing.

In terms of teaching experience, he has been involved with Philosophy and Business Ethics since 2011 and has taught at the University of Pretoria, UNISA and The Da Vinci Institute.

Field of specialisation

Schalk’s research expertise is situated at the intersection of philosophy of religion and social/political philosophy. In turn, his teaching expertise concerns business ethics and philosophy. He is also a member of the Philosophical Society of South Africa and the Nederlands-Afrikaanstalige Wysgerige Genootskap.

 

 

Richard Goddard

Faculty Head: Statistical Methods

Faculty: Economics, Financial Literacy (Numeracy), Business Management

 

 

 Qualifications / Academic Background

Richard holds a B Prim Ed (WITS) and Honours in Business Management (UNISA). He is also currently studying towards a Masters degree at The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Richard has been involved in a variety of educational programs. Some of these include the BML Degree at FNB where he facilitated problem-solving, economics, financial accounting, soft skills, business management, project management, mathematics and understanding and knowing who I am.

He also facilitated the first-year programme for Engineering at Monash University, for a group of Angolan students. His clients include City Power, Altech (UEC), Altech Cellular, Altech Netstar, Altron, KDI-Kenya Data Networks and Swift Global (Uganda), FNB and Covidien.

Jean Grundling

Faculty Head: Human Resource Management

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Jean holds a MPhil (Adult Education) from University of Stellenbosch, BTech (Human Resource Management) from Technikon SA (Former) and  Higher Diploma of Education from NWU.

Work Background

Jean works at the University of the Free State and has a sound knowledge and understanding of the HR industry.

Wilma Guest-Mouton

Faculty Head: Retail Management

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Wilma holds a BA (Languages) from the University of Pretoria, a Higher Educational Diploma, B.Ed, M.A. in Adult Education and a D.Ed in Didactical studies.

Work Background

Wilma is the Chief Executive Officer for Guest Resource Services (Pty) Ltd. Field of specialisation. In addition, she held various directorships including Ekosto 1094 since 2004, Capital City Business Chamber (CCBC) in 2011 and Business Information Center (Akasia Soshanguve) in 1999.

Field of specialisation

Wilma has been delivering education and training in the Retail space for a number of years.  She is passionate about education and training in general and about Retail Management in particular.  She teaches Retail Management at The Da Vinci Institute and also serves as the Faculty Head.

 

Nickey Hart-Crosby

Faculty: Business Communication, Business Management

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Nickey holds a BA Educational Psychology and English, HED (Postgraduate) and an Advanced Certificate for Professional and Business Coaching (Postgraduate).

Work Background

During the past 15 years, Nickey has practised as a Leadership Learning and Development Practitioner and have extensive experience in presenting and facilitating learning interventions at various small, medium and large enterprises in South Africa and abroad.

Nickey has a solid understanding of business and the development and the implementation of key people practises due to her previous exposure at Nedbank, Woolworths and Foschini. In these Financial and Retail enterprises, she functioned in the roles of HR and Leadership and Workforce Development Management.

Kerryn Irvin

Faculty: Management of People

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Kerryn holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology from WITS, as well as an Honours in Psychology from RAU (now UJ).

Work Background

Kerryn’s experience includes leading a team of psychologists in the strategy and operations of a unique tool to help managers and leaders understand their influence and effect on the people around them, creating FNB’s orientation programme and then its facilitation, as well as creating and launching a new “on the job” training programme for Edgars, and facilitating workshops countrywide to launch the product.

Gerhard Janse van Rensburg

Faculty: Managerial Leadership

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Gerhard holds a B.A (Hebrew and Philosophy), a number of theology qualifications including a D.Th (Practical Theology – Thesis: Leadership and organisational structures in congregations) and MCom (Leadership Studies) – Dissertation title: The need and process for the change from a management to a leadership culture in organisations.

Work Background

Gerhard founded New Era Leadership and worked as a leadership and executive coach, development facilitator and academic supervisor since 2002.

He is a co-developer of the leadership development component of the National Human Resources Management Standards and certified as a PDA Analyst and MyPDA Coach. Since 2015 Gerhard is a director of the Future Leaders Africa online development journey.

Gerhard is well-known for his articles in the leadership field and is a column writer for the CEO magazine. He published two leadership books, The Leadership Challenge In Africa (foreword by Archbishop Desmond Tutu), and Leadership Thoughts. He is furthermore chosen by Motivational Press as one of their community of leading experts, thought leaders, and industry authorities.

His articles were published in several leadership, management and human resources publications such as CEO, PMR, HR Future, HR.com and BusinessBrief.

Piet Joubert

Faculty: Project Management

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Piet holds a BA (Psychology) from UP, a BA (Honours) (Industrial relations and advanced organisational behaviour) from UPE (now NMMU), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Management (RAU) (now UJ).

Work Background

Piet has many years of consulting experience, including business process mapping, and focusing on project management in particular.

Debra Kidson

Facilitator: Banking

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Debra holds a CAIB (SA); BCompt; BCom Hons (Accounting); Post Grad Dip Advanced Taxation; PGCE (Post Grad Certificate Education) from UNISA

Work Background

Debra works in commercial banking for 40 years, with experience across all segments from retail/branch banking; Commercial Banking as a Relationship Manager and a Centre Manager managing a team to Corporate and Investment Banking primarily in the Credit environment. She is now embarking on the next phase of my career, consulting in an accounting and tax environment for an auditing firm and facilitating in the adult learning environment – in banking and accounting

Debra’s academic background lies in Accounting and Tax and is a Practising member of SAIPA and a registered Tax Practitioner with SARS. She has recently completed Facilitator and Assessor training and awaits formal certification from the SETA.

Dewald Kruger

Information Officer, Research Support

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Dewald holds a Bachelors of Theology (UP) and a Master of Divinity (UP).

Work Background

Dewald is working as the Information Officer at The Da Vinci Institute on a full-time basis.  His role includes research support such as assisting students with searching for literature, training on academic writing and plagiarism, managing the physical and online library of The Institute, and other research-related support functions.

Field of specialisation

Dewald teaches research at undergraduate levels and academic writing at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Tshepho Langa

Faculty: Economics

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Tshepho holds a Master of Business Administration (USB) degree. His other qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (UKZN), Advanced Diploma in Economic Policy (UWC) and Programme in Supply Chain Management (UNISA).

Work Background

Tshepho has worked in the Clothing Retail, Store Management, Planning & Buying Sector for 3 years.

Field of specialisation

Tshepho is passionate about public speaking, lecturing and leadership. He is currently teaching Economics (BCom first year) at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Geoff Law

Faculty Head: Banking

Thulani holds a Bachelor of Business Science (UCT) and a Master of Commerce in Applied Economics (UCT).                                                       

Work Background

Thulani Madinginye is the founding Chief Executive and Lead Researcher at Berakah Value Investments. Berakah is an investment holding company that seek to find and invest in opportunities across various industries including the energy, mining, technology and financial sectors.

Thulani also worked as a junior Economics Lecturer at the University of Cape Town for a year, as well as at the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurship located within the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Busines, and the Sandton campus of Varsity College (part-time).

Chengedzai Mafini

Dr Mafini holds a PhD from the North West University as well as a D. Tech from the Vaal University of Technology, an Advanced Diploma in Higher Education – UOFS, an MSc in Strategic Management (Chinhoyi University of Technology), a Bachelor of Business Administration (Chinhoyi University of Technology), a Diploma in Personnel Management, as well as a Certificate in Doctoral Supervision (Rhodes).                                                        

Work Background

Dr Mafini is currently the Faculty Head of the Logistics Faculty at the VUT and is serving as a guest facilitator at The Da Vinci Institute.

Dumisani Magadlela

Facilitator: Leadership

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Dumisani holds a PhD from Wageningen Universiteit en Researchcentrum.

Work Background

Dumisani has vast experience in coaching and leadership development facilitation from around the world. He was trained in the Gestalt International Organizational Systems Development programme run by the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, USA. This training was practical and experiential and involved working in different organisations around the world. Dumisani completed a leadership and emotional intelligence development programme with the UNDP and Teleos Leadership Institute (USA) called “Leadership in the 21st Century” in 2005, and another leadership development programme called “Leadership Development for Results programme”. He was accredited as a leadership facilitator and trainer on Worldsview’s ‘Nine Conversations in Leadership’ programme and has facilitated local and international events, including Knowledge Resources’ Annual Coaching and Mentoring Conference and African Leadership Seminars across the African continent. He facilitates executive teams’ strategic conversations and staff engagements, focus group discussion sessions, among others. He enjoys facilitation and uses multiple tools to ensure optimum participation. He has facilitated African Leadership seminars and given presentations on African and global leadership development issues, on coaching and mentoring across different forums. He has given keynote addresses on transformation and leadership in changing environments, including for the Mining Transformation Indaba in SA. He has run workshops and given talks to COMENSA members and other coaching bodies within SA. 

Dumisani’s work and business experience has taken him from being a university lecturer for over six years to multiple senior management roles in the public and private sector. He supervises and examines Masters Students in universities across South Africa. He has worked in the United Nations (UNDP) both as a consultant and employee. Dumisani has recently worked as a Regional Manager, Senior Corporate Affairs Specialist, Senior Strategist and internal coach for the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).

Henra Mayer

Faculty Head: Management of Innovation

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Henra holds a BA degree with a focus on languages from UP.  She has also completed a Programme in Business Leadership (PBL) at UNISA, and a Masters in Business Leadership from the UNISA SBL.

Work Background

Henra is a respected innovation measurement specialist. Innovation measurement was the focus of her Master studies and she has since delivered several keynote addresses and conference papers on the topic.  She also published various articles highlighting innovation measurement imperatives and demonstrating subject matter expertise. 

Henra also acts as Innovation adjudicator for various innovation related competitions. She is currently acting as a judge for the Accenture/Da Vinci Innovation Index Awards, serves as TT100 (Top Technology 100) adjudicator, acted as an adjudicator for the University of Pretoria on their annual Innovation in Engineering competition as well as for the FASA (Franchisee Association of SA) Awards. She also acted as an editorial panellist for The SA Innovator Magazine, contributes weekly to the New Age Newspaper’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship column and guides weekly Innocentrix publications in TechSmart Magazine.

Nimrod holds a Bachelor of Arts (WITS), a Graduate Diploma in Management (WITS), a Masters Degree in Management (WITS) and a PhD in Corporate Governance (WITS).

Work Background

Nimrod is a seasoned lecturer in the following discipline: corporate governance, corporate strategy development; change management and risk management.

He also taught and supervised master’s students at Wits School of Governance, Regenesys Business School and The Da Vinci Institute.

Ronald holds an MSc Procurement (University of South Wales), a Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management (CIPS-UK), and a Higher National Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

Work Background

Ronald has worked in Supply Chain Management for quite some time and he is a well-known player in education and training in the Supply Chain Management field, having impacted the national curricula (National Treasury as well as Palama), and lecturing in this field for several years.

Judy Molefi

Judy holds a BA Degree (Applied Psychology) (UNISA), a BA (Honours)( Applied Psychology for Professional Contexts) (UNISA) a Diploma (HR) (Allenby), as well as a Certificate: HIV/AIDS Care & Counselling (UNISA).

Work Background

Judy has 12 years’ experience in Retail Banking; both as a banking hall controller, and overseeing tellers and enquiries.  She also worked as a facilitator of learning for 7 years, and spent almost a year as a Relationship Manager at head office level, building relationships internally between Group HR and Line.

The past 16 years were spent in her own practice as a consultant, associate and coach in the learning environment but diverse industries including young graduates and bursary students.

Unathi Mntonintshi

Faculty Head:  Business Ethics, Faculty: Business Management

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Unathi holds a B.Tech Civil Engineering (Peninsula Technikon), an MSc Transportation Planning (UP) as well as an MBA Finance (UP).

Work Background

Besides his experience as an Engineer, Unathi has a wealth of experience in business, including extensive management consulting experience.  He has also served as a member of the Transport Appeal Tribunal (Ministerial appointment) from 2006 – 2008, as a Member of the Regulating Committee for ACSA and ATNS (2008 – 2011), Chairperson of the Regulating Committee for ACSA and ATNS (2013 – 2016), as well as a Non-Executive Director of the Gautrain Management Agency (2015 to current).

He is passionate about ethics and good corporate governance, especially in state owned enterprises.

Siddiah Muthee

Qualifications / Academic Background

Siddiah holds a BA degree (Language Practitioners) (UJ) and Honours: Applied Linguistics (UJ) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (Milpark).  She also took French lessons from the Alliance Francaise for a period of two years.

Work Background

Siddiah has held various posts in the Learning and Development (L&D) and the Human Capital space, ranging from being an Instructional Designer, Learning Consultant and Project Manager before branching into Business to incorporate Business Management to L&D and Human Capital, in the business sphere, she has held positions such as a Business Development Manager, Relationship Manager, Regional General Manager and Strategic Account Manager.

Siddiah is passionate about research and about teaching students academic writing skills.  She teaches Work Based Challenge (undergraduate research) and Business Communication (writing) at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Ann Naicker

Ann Naicker holds a Diploma in Human Resources Management (Dip: HRM), a degree in Social Science (B.SocSci), a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management(Post Grad: Dip: Bus Mgt)  and a Masters in Business Administration(MBA). She is currently reading her Doctorate in Leadership – Leadership and Change.

Work Background

Ann has worked across multiple industries within her 17year working career. This includes both the private sector and the public sector (locally and internationally).  She worked at, amongst others, Oracle (SA), MTN, Edcon, Woolworths, SABC, Hollard, Mutual and Federal, MultiChoice, Eskom and Transnet (Pipelines).  She managed diverse and multiple portfolios at stepped levels within her corporate career, namely from junior management levels to executive management.  Her passion, however, lies with the development of people and this has been her key focus.

Ryan Parker

Ryan holds a Degree in Industrial Psychology, post graduate qualifications in Business Science from GIBS and the University of Stellenbosch, and a post graduate Diploma in Change Management (UNISA 2015). Ryan is currently studying towards a Masters in Education (Virtual Learning Environments) at the University of South Wales.

Work Background

Ryan’s early experiences as Lecturer and Academic Head for Damelin School of Business ingrained in him the importance of gaining measurable results from training, while his last Full Time Employed position as Head of Learning & Development for Nedbank’s Client Services Cluster, where he was mandated to build a culture of learning against the backdrop of some of the most turbulent times in the history of Nedbank, taught him the importance of balancing the wants of the learner with needs of the client.

His experience includes building Executive Development programs, landing blended learning for complex IT projects to developing short, fun team building sessions for millennials, or creating serious sales training aimed at business owners.

Theo holds a Sc. Agric (Agricultural Economics) (US),  Hons B.Sc. (AgEcon) (US) and a MBA (UP) (Dissertation topic: The economic evaluation of the Zoeknog Coffee Project in Lebowa with the assistance of current investment criteria

Work Background

Theo has worked in the Venda Homeland, Department of Agriculture for 4 years as an Ag Economist, in the Economic Development Corporation, Ag Economist for 4 years, then Standard Bank for 25 years in various positions, ending as the Provincial Director Free State and Northern Cape. Theo also worked at the School of Management, Free State University for 6 years and served on the Board of the Landbank for 5 years.

Field of specialisation

Theo has extensive experience in retail banking and has specialised in the challenges of the BBBEE legislation for smaller businesses. Theo presented pre- and post-graduate programmes on BBBEE at the University of the Free State. He also has a long-standing interest in development economics and the challenges that come with it.

Dawn Pretorius

Dawn holds a Masters in Commerce from the Potchefstroom University. Her dissertation dealt with Private Banking Services in South Africa. She also holds a B.Tech Banking degree and has completed a number of other banking/commercial qualifications and courses.

Work Background

Dawn has spent a lifetime in banking with experience in various aspects of banking including trust company of bank, offshore banking and structures, private and commercial banking, strategy, preparation for merger Standard Bank and Liberty wealth.

Her field of specialisation is corporate governance and compliance, with particular emphasis on banking. She is passionate about facilitating Banking modules at Da Vinci as she loves learning from her students and growing her mind together with theirs.

 

 

Merusha Reddi

Qualifications / Academic Background

Merusha holds a Bachelor of Education in (Further Education and Training) and a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Education Management, Law and Policy Studies from the University of Pretoria. She has been registered as an assessor with the ETDP-SETA and is also registered with the South African Council of Educators.

Work Background

Merusha’s work background is Education, Training and eLearning. Upon joining Accsys as an eLearning Facilitator in Payroll Administration, her passion for payroll and love of education intertwined. With the teachings and mentoring received from the payroll experts at Accsys, she has grown to become well skilled in Payroll Operations, Payroll Administration and in the training of Payroll software.

Jayesh Reddy

Jayesh holds a BSc Computer Science (UKZN) and an MSc (MOTI) from The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Since 2005, Jayesh has been working as an independent business consultant/advisor, specialising in the development of business cases and specifications and evaluating business operations.  He also facilitates classes in systems thinking at a number of institutions.

Satish Roopa

Faculty: Managerial Leadership

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Academic Background

Satish holds a B.Juris degree and an LLB from UNISA, as well as an M.Phil (related to management sciences) from the University of Stellenbosch. 

Work Background

Satish practised as a human rights and labour lawyer in the 1980s and early 1990s. He was involved in a large number of political development forums and negotiating teams and served as member and office-bearer of a variety of organisations, including Lawyers for Human Rights.

Field of specialisation

For the past 20 years, Satish has been involved in the management of a number of companies. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the Board of the Gautrain Management Agency. He also inter alia served on the Board of ABSA in the North West Province, as well as a number of other companies.

Satish teaches managerial leadership (including supervision) at The Da Vinci Institute.

 

Pat Roper

Shaun Ruysenaar

Shaun holds a PhD in Social and Political Science (African Studies) from the University of Edinburgh. His undergraduate was in Physics and Environmental Management with and Honors and MSc in Geographical Science.

Work Background

Shaun has worked as a research and management consultant for 10 years in a range of fields covering GIS, food security, environmental management, strategy, policy and general management

Shaun is a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists and IODSA and has published peer-reviewed articles in the field of food security, biofuels and policy (internationally).

Work Background

Mokgethi has over 20 years working experience in the corporate world. He served as the CEO and Board member of Prowalco (Pty) Ltd, Sales Director for FedEx, and Independent Business Development Consultant for New Africa Petroleum (NAP). Mr Selebogo also served as the Accounts & Card Processing Manager for Oberthur Card Systems. He started his working career with Unilever South Africa as an Assistant Accounts Manager and a Sales Representative in 1993.

John holds a Masters in (Management and Innovation) from Da Vinci Institute, BSc Honors (Information Systems) from UNISA and a BSc (Information Technology) for Midrand Graduate Institute.

Work Background

John has 12 years’ experience in investment banking environment with 4 years as a business solution architect and 8 years leading diverse teams coupled with interpersonal skills which give him a niche when it comes to delivering business value. As a result, he has a unique ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and as well as navigate complex challenges. Currently leading a Change Management Project in the department of Gauteng Infrastructure development

He is also a Board member of the School of Computing College of Science at UNISA. Work Background

Bianca has a passion for teaching and education and wants to enrich the lives of adults who are studying. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with specific focus on Education, Bianca started out as a school teacher, before starting at Accsys, people management specialists. Bianca embraces her role at Accsys as a training and eLearning facilitator, and at Da Vinci as online tutor for the Payroll modules.

Bianca’s passion is to empower Payroll People to become strategic within business, of which Accsys has many years’ experience in this field. She is a member of the South African Counsel for Educators (SACE) and has a great interest in general Payroll operations, administration and software.

Carin holds a Master of Public Management degree from the Regenesys School of Public Management. She has also recently completed a PhD at the Da Vinci Institute. Her thesis deals with the retention and success of non-traditional postgraduate students.

Work Background

Carin has worked in both the public and the private sector in a range of managerial positions.  Her most recent experience includes 7 years at SAQA, where she worked as a Deputy Director in the Executive Office, 3 years as the Head of Professional Development and Education at CIPS Africa, and her full-time role at The Da Vinci Institute, since July 2014.

Her current role and most recent work experience involve managing the quality of teaching and learning as well as student support.

Carin is passionate about student success (student retention and throughput).  Her research interests also include teaching and learning and assessment.

 

Greg Tosen

Qualifications / Academic Background

Greg holds a National Diploma in Meteorology  (Dipl Met),  a BSc from the University of South Africa and a MSc (cum laude) from the University of Witwatersrand. In addition to this, Greg has undertaken a number of academic courses both nationally and international related to technology and science eg,  John F Kennedy School of Governance – Harvard University -“Mobilizing Science and Technology for Sustainable Development.”  He is currently completing his PhD in Technology Roadmapping at the Da Vinci Institute of Management Leadership.

Work Background

Gregory is currently Faculty Head – Management of Technology & Management of Systems (Systems Thinking) at the Da Vinci Institute of Management Leadership. He supervisors a number of MSc students in the area of technology leadership, innovation and systems thinking. He acts as an external examiner and has lectured on Research & Technology Management and related fields at Pretoria and Johannesburg Universities, the Max Planck Institute (Germany) as well as at number multi-nationals organisations. 

He has refereed for numerous National and International Environmental Journals and published and presented over 40 papers both nationally and internationally, edited and authored 4 books on technology and environmental related issues.            

His expertise in Technology Management goes back 32 years where he was General Manager Eskom R&D and led Eskom to numerous Top Technology 100 Awards in the area of Research Management and associated innovative products and patents.

Greg sits on a number of national and international Research Boards to name a few:

Barry Urban

Qualifications / Academic Background

Barry holds a B.Com (Econ) from Rhodes University, a B.Compt (Hons) from UNISA, and is a qualified C.A. (S.A.) (retired). He is also a TOCICO certified expert in the Theory of Constraint management philosophy.

Work Background

Barry worked as an auditor and accountant for 18 years and as a management consultant for 21 years.  In this time he built up extensive management expertise as well as experience in business analysis and improvement.

One of the positions he held was that of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of SAQA, where he also built up extensive knowledge of the South African education and training landscape, as well as education policy.

Barry also serves as external moderator at both GIBS and the UFS.

Hendrien van Zyl

Deon van Zyl

Deon holds a B.A. (Hons.), M.A. (Clin. Psych.) from the University of Johannesburg and a D.Phil. from the University of Pretoria

Work Background

Deon van Zyl (D.Phil.) is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice and has 26 years of experience as a Management, Training and Development Consultant within a wide range of organisations. He was an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Pretoria, where he lectured and practised for 13 years. He is past chairperson of the South African Institute for Clinical Psychology, a Professional Associate of the S.A. Association for Jungian Analysts and the African representative of the International Association for the Study of Dreams.

Deon has received two Academic Merit awards from the Human Sciences Research Council, and a HSRC research award for the “Psychological Influences on Human Immune Responses”, showing the relationship between stress and the body’s immune systems. He spent a year in the U S A on a post-doctoral grant from the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust, researching a multi-disciplinary approach to behavioural medicine. He completed two summer intensive continuing education study programmes at the C G Jung Institute and the International School for Analytical Psychology, Zurich Switzerland. Recently he delivered papers at international conferences in the Netherlands, Kyoto (Japan), Chicago, Asheville, New York and Burlington (all in the U.S.A.), and he does regular lectures for the C G Jung Centers in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

He has 57 scientific and popular publications, including published conference proceedings and five book chapters to his name, both locally and overseas.

He has designed 31 customised training programs for companies over a wide range of industries.

Work Background

Andre Vermaak is a highly skilled facilitator with vast experience of presenting programmes at management and executive levels. As part time lecturer at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (Strategy and Leadership Module), da Vinci Institute (Strategy) and at UNISA SBL (Modules on Strategy and on Research for MBA’s) he has an in-depth knowledge of the latest business trends and research on leadership and management which adds much value to the programmes he presents.  He has extensive training and facilitation experience.

Sarel holds a B.Com (UOFS), B.Com (Hon.) (RAU), and an M.Com (Strategic Management) (RAU). He is also ISO 14001:2004 qualified.

Work Background

At the SA Road Transport Services, Sarel was responsible for costing of services, pricing of routes and budgeting for passenger and goods transport. He then joined Stannic from July 1988 as Senior Consultant in Fleet Management and moved through the ranks, gaining valuable experience in fleet management and vehicle finance until June 2003 when he started his consultancy business, Stentor Consulting cc.

Qualifications / Academic Background

Este is a qualified CA (SA) and obtained her Masters in National and International Tax, Cum-laude, from the North West University in 2005. She is also currently enrolled for a PhD at The Da Vinci Institute.

Work Background

Este has years of experience in the airline industry, which has allowed her to very quickly zone in on the cost saving and efficiency factors that typically dictate the wellness of the airline /organisation. Este’s financial qualifications, in turn, allow operational changes to be reflected in real financial terms allowing the organisation to view the impact of remedial actions.
