Desiree Vardhan’s vision to transform sport through sports coaching began as an athlete. She graduated as a physical education teacher and progressed into sports coaching, although sports coaching was not embraced as a career for women in the early 1980’s, it was through her teaching career that spanned over 15 years that she developed her passion and commitment to sports coaching.
Desiree is the driving force behind the establishment of the South African Coaching Framework and the recently recognized Professional body for Sports Coaching. She is the co-author of the SA Long Term Coach Development framework (LTCD), SA Sports for Life framework (SAS4L). She was influential in establishing a masters degree programme for sports coaching which commenced in 2017. She had also steered the recognition of prior learning assessments for sports coaching and the first Coach developer progamme in 2011.
Her previous work experiences include; manager of the Transkei academy of sport and director of sport at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls.
Desiree’s qualifications include; a Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Psychology, an honours degree in sports science and an honours degree in Biokinetics, a masters degree in conflict resolution and peace studies.
